- Description
- Stresscopin-Related Peptide (SRP) is a peptide homologue to Urocortin-2 discovered in the human brain. SRP suppresses food intake, delays gastric emptying and shows a vasodilative effect. It was reported, that the level of Stresscopin-Related Peptide is increased under hypoxic stress. SRP seems to inhibit cell death by apoptosis. Stresscopin-related peptide is a 5-amino acid extension of urocortin II that includes a preceding H-P-G-S-R tag. Like urocortin II, stresscopin-related peptide is a member of the corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) family that binds to the CRF type 2 receptor (CRFR2). Stresscopin-related peptide signaling results in suppression of food intake, delay of gastric emptying, hypotension/hypertension (depending on the model), and tachycardia. Stresscopin-related peptide and its analog urocortin II modulate stress responses and exhibits anorexigenic, anxiogenic, anxiolytic, and generally positive inotropic effects (such as increases in coronary blood blow and cardiac output) across a wide variety of in vivo models.
