Target
αVß3 Integrin Antagonist, A disintegrin, whose sequence is derived from the venom of the viper, Echis carinatus. This snake venom is an inhibitor of both integrin-dependent cell adhesion and platelet aggregation, preventing blood coagulation. Echistatin
Description
Potent irreversible αVβ3 integrin antagonist (Ki = 0.27 nM). Disrupts attachment of osteoclasts to bone and inhibits bone reabsorption (IC50 = 0.1 nM). Prevents ADP-induced platelet aggregation via inhibition of glycoprotein IIb/IIIa (GpIIb/IIIa, αIIbβ3) receptors (IC50 = 30 nM) in vitro. Echistatin, the smallest active RGD protein belonging to the family of disintegrins that are derived from snake venoms, is a potent inhibitor of platelet aggregation. Echistatin is a potent inhibitor of bone resorption in culture. Echistatin is a potent antagonist of αIIbβ3, αvβ3 and α5β1.
